Support Night Cook: A Liminal Slice-of-Life Horror Film

Donation protected
Something is wrong in Prophet, CO. The local retirement home has drawn the attention of strange and otherworldly forces.

We’re Crucible Media LLC, and Night Cook is our first big project: a surreal, atmospheric short film made in collaboration with Pumpkin Hill Radio LLC. It’s eerie, strange, and grounded in a love for old-school storytelling and practical effects.

Synopsis
Gary, a cook at a retirement home, faces a mystery after he discovers an object in the kitchen. Events escalate, including eerie radio messages, vanishing colleagues, and unsettling figures in the halls. Soon, Gary is running for his life to avoid being captured by whatever has entered his reality.

This is a film for fans of late-night horror and unsettling, slow-burn storytelling. With your support, we’ll bring this world to life by paying our cast and crew fairly, renting gear, building sets, and feeding everyone on set.

Why We’re Crowdfunding
We’re a small, independent team with no studios or big budgets. Just a bold vision and a commitment to doing it right. Your support will go toward cast and crew wages, gear rental, props, locations, production design, and feeding everyone on set because hungry people don’t make great horror.

We’re powered by community. That’s why your contribution matters so much. With your help, we can make Night Cook everything it’s meant to be: haunting, strange, and unforgettable.

Directors Statement
Night Cook is my first major project since graduating with a degree in film and video production and it represents everything I love about filmmaking: collaboration, experimentation, and storytelling that invites people to feel something real.

This isn’t just a film. It’s a chance to build something deeply intentional with people I care about. I’m working with close friends, classmates, and local artists who bring passion, integrity, and an eccentric vision to every step of the process. We’re making something that doesn’t follow a formula, and that’s the point. It’s experimental. It’s moody. It sits in the in-between spaces, the kind that linger long after the credits roll.

For me, this film is a reflection of where I’m at as a storyteller. I am drawn to quiet tension, raw emotion, and that surreal edge where reality starts to bend. But more than that, it’s about making something with people I believe in for an audience I want to connect with on a gut level. If we can move you, unsettle you, or even just make you feel a little more alive for a few minutes, that’s everything.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for believing in independent filmmaking.

Writer’s Statement
I wrote Night Cook as a love letter to liminal horror. In some ways, it mirrors my late-night shifts at an old nursing home, when all the unknowable things I imagined seemed to dance just around the corner. Most nights passed without a second thought, just getting through the shift. But sometimes, the eldritch hand of mystery would reach up, tap me on the shoulder, and point to something just out of reach.

Night Cook is about one of those nights, when something strange starts to tug at the old rhythm of an ordinary life. It’s the seams of the world coming undone, one small tear at a time. It’s what I call liminal slice-of-life horror; a working man’s night melting into a lost episode of The Twilight Zone.

There are things on the other side of reality we dare not speak of. We may only witness them. Witness this now, and enter a world of unnerving terror.
