Hi! I'm Nic Stark, an opera singer based in State College, PA. This summer, I have been offered substantial scholarships by two highly competitive young artist programs! I'm very much looking forward to developing my career through these programs, but even with scholarships, I am in need of financial support to do so. The funds raised through this page will go directly towards the cost of tuition and housing for this summer's activities, which you can read more about below. Even the smallest donation means so much to me!
About Me
I'm from Oklahoma originally, where I completed my Bachelor's degree at Oklahoma Baptist University. Last May, I graduated with my Master's of Music from Penn State University. Since then, I've been working as a barista, teaching private voice and virtual Music Appreciation, and continuing my own voice study with a new teacher. Between all these things, I've been working to strengthen my skills as an operatic performer and improve my audition materials. In the next 10 years, I aspire to live in Europe and work as a professional operatic singer. I believe this summer's work is a direct step towards attaining this goal.
Harrower Summer Opera at Georgia State University (May 23 - June 15)
First, I'll be heading to Atlanta to participate in Harrower's young artist program. I'll sing the role of Giles Corey in their production of Robert Ward's The Crucible. The show is based off of Arthur Miller's play of the same name. It depicts the story of the infamous Salem witch trials, wherein several women are tortured and killed due to allegations of witchcraft. The opera won a Pulitzer Prize in 1962, and it contains themes of religious scapegoating, mob mentality, and legal corruption. I'm super pumped to take part in this show--it will be my first full operatic role performed outside of school! I'll also have the opportunity to learn from esteemed music faculty at Georgia State and Atlanta Opera, as well as guest artist Jen Rowley, an incredible Met Opera star.
IPAI in Bavaria (July 6 - July 26)
Later this summer, I've been offered the opportunity to travel to southeast Germany to take part in the Institute of Performing Arts International (IPAI) in Bavaria. During this program, I'll not only get the chance to sing in a program of German opera scenes, but also participate in acting/dance classes, German language classes, voice lessons, coachings, & masterclasses, and workshops focusing on musical entrepreneurship, marketing, & branding. IPAI will offer me one-on-one mentorship as I further explore and develop my artistic path. I will get to interact directly with professional singers and musicians who are living my dream, basically!
