Nicole is an amazing, hardworking mom whose life changed forever on October 9th. On that day, she received the kind of news no parent is ever prepared for—her son was diagnosed with leukemia. Anyone who has walked this road knows the fear, the uncertainty, and the overwhelming emotional, physical, and financial weight that comes with a diagnosis like this. Nicole’s son is currently undergoing intensive treatment in Arizona, and as many families battling cancer know, the journey is long, unpredictable, and requires constant presence, strength, and support.
Despite everything, Nicole continues to show up with the same dedication she has always shown to her community. She works full-time here in Solano County, and every week—sometimes a couple of times a week—she travels from California to Arizona to be by her son’s side in the hospital. She does all of this while still performing her job duties, serving as the SEIU 1021 President, managing negotiations, and handling the everyday responsibilities that come with her leadership role. What many people don’t realize is that Nicole’s role as the SEIU 1021 President is completely voluntary. She advocates for employees simply because she cares deeply about the people of Solano County. Her passion comes from a genuine desire to make sure workers are treated fairly, respectfully, and equally. Even in the midst of her personal crisis, she continues to fight for others—not because she has to, but because that’s who she is at her core. Nicole is juggling two worlds at once: her responsibilities at home and work, and the fight for her child’s health hundreds of miles away.
As you can imagine, the financial impact is significant. Airfare alone adds up quickly, and on top of that, Nicole is helping to financially support family members who have shifted to part-time work so they can care for her son while she manages essential obligations in California. She is doing everything she can—but no one should have to carry this kind of burden alone.
If you know Nicole, you know she is the last person who would ever ask for help. She is strong, selfless, and always the one lifting others up. That’s exactly why I wanted to create this space—to lift her up, to remind her that she is surrounded by people who care deeply about her, and to show her that she doesn’t have to shoulder this battle by herself.
Any amount donated will help ease the financial pressure so Nicole can focus on what matters most: her son’s healing and well-being. And if you’re unable to donate, even a simple share would mean the world—it helps spread her story to others who may want to support her and her family during this unimaginably difficult time.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and for keeping Nicole and her son in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️
