Support Nick's Recovery and Road to Healing

Donation protected

On April 16th, I got a phone call no parent wants to get. My son was in the Emergency Room. He was on his way to work and had been involved in a motorcycle accident. Because he had been brought in by ambulance and was rushed through to assess his injuries, they could not find his name in the system. I was taken into a waiting area, and finally brought back to see him.

The report from the Delaware State Trooper was that Nick was riding, and had switched lanes. Unfortunately, at the same time, the car in front of him did the same, and suddenly stopped. Not having any time to react, Nick struck the back of the vehicle and was ejected from his bike. We were told he probably flew about 200 feet, hitting the road and eventually landing in the grassy median.

Nick was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was diagnosed with a compound fracture of his left wrist, 6 fractured ribs, a fractured left scapula and a fractured right ankle. They were able to operate on the wrist fracture, but he would have to wait a week before anything could be done for the shoulder, leaving him in severe pain any time he was moved. After the wrist surgery, Nick suddenly became unstable, and it was determined that he was bleeding internally, and a chest tube needed to be placed in order to drain the blood in his chest. The tubes would stay in place for the next 2 weeks. Because of the intense pain, it was decided that he would benefit from an epidural to try to give him better pain control, which was a godsend.

Nick was finally able to have the surgery to repair the broken scapula, and stayed a few more days before being released from the hospital. He is now on the road to recovery and will be starting Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and many return trips to his doctors to stay on track with his progress.

His family wants to take this time to thank everyone involved. From the first people at the scene who stopped and talked to him in those first scary moments, the EMT's, doctors and nurses from the ED to TSU where his spent the next 2 weeks. Everyone was amazing.

At this point, there is no telling when Nick will be able to return to his job. He has a long road of recovery and therapy ahead of him, and unfortunately, his employer does not offer any Short Term Disability. He is now left with no income, and the bills are starting to come due. Also, with the loss of the motorcycle, he is left with no mode of transportation.

If you are able to help in any way, we are very appreciative of any support you may be able to offer. Any contribution/donation that you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

***UPDATE*****

Here's a little update ever since Nick has been home. Nick was finally able to get the staples out on his shoulder after his scapular surgery. He was quite happy with being able to take regular showers without having to be vigilant about the dressing on his back. He was able to go to all of his follow up appointments and started PT/OT and is improving every single day.

Nick and the family would like to simply thank everyone who has supported him, prayers and well wishes and donated money so far because every little bit helps. With your help he is able to focus on his healing and not have to worry about all the medical bills that are slowly trickling in. Currently we are almost to the halfway point of our goal and we need your help to get us to the end of our goal. Again, we cannot express our gratitude enough and we are blessed to have such an amazing and supportive group of people that are coming through for us. Below are some photo updates of Nick's improvements:
