Hi, my name is Nick Chomakos. I am 57 years old. In early 2023, they found 2 masses in my stomach. In June 2023, I had a huge surgery to remove one of the masses along with my right adrenal gland that it was attached to. The surgery was tough; I lost 20 bags of blood and developed a blood clot in my lung. I woke up 5 days later with 12 days total in the hospital.
Then in September of 2023, I did 12 rounds of Folfox chemo with Keytruda. It actually spread instead of shrinking. I was weighing 275, and my heart rate was 140+ sitting rate. So, I got on a beta blocker to get down the heart rate so I could get an endoscopy. Had the endoscopy, and they found the primary tumor at the top of my stomach. Cancer was changed to HER2+, so in May 2024, I started on the 2nd line of chemo, Folfiri. By July, I finally had a negative Signatera blood test and clear scans. I started a clean diet in April 2024 with hardly any carbs and only organic clean foods, clean soaps, and deodorants. I took the rest of the 2024 summer off of treatments.
I took a new test in September 2024, and I was positive again on Signatera, so the doctor wanted to try Herceptin alone. It was working for months, going down each test until December of 2025, when the Signatera scores started spiking back up. I took a new MRI, and it showed a mass now in my GE Junction, 4 cm. I had to turn down the PET scan because it cost $1,800 for the co-pay. On May 12th, I start back on Folfiri chemo, which is 53 straight hours of chemo, then 11 days rest. So, every 2 weeks, I have to pay a large co-pay.
My insurance has changed this year, and I have to pay 50% of all services, and my work is slow, making it impossible to pay. I shouldn't have to die in this country because I can't afford proper health care. I hate posting this to ask for funds, but I have no other choice. I am a proud Christian, and I will continue to pray for a miracle. In the meantime, I will continue to eat healthy and try to exercise as much as possible on my week off of treatments. I currently weigh 200 lbs. I think staying as healthy and strong as possible is key to slowing down and fighting this disease.
