I am writing this on behalf of my son-in-law, Nick Thompson, who is just 29 years old and currently facing end stage kidney failure (CKD5). Our family is doing everything we can to support him through this incredibly difficult time. Though Nick has been an absolute trooper, the journey has been overwhelming both emotionally and financially. Since early June 2025, Nick and his wife Ana have been navigating the challenges of his diagnosis, and the hardships have only grown.

Nick is waiting to be added to the transplant list for a kidney, but in the meantime, it is absolutely crucial for him to start dialysis immediately to keep him alive. He’s already had surgery for his fistula in early December 2025, but it is not quite healed yet, so he needs another procedure for placement of a temporary chest catheter to start dialysis. There is so much involved behind the scenes, including his diabetes and the need for a pancreas as well, to ensure the new kidney, when received, will not be affected. Throughout this medical crisis, both Nick and Ana have lost work hours, and the medical bills are adding up quickly. This young couple, who should have been enjoying their first year of marriage, have fallen on both medical and financial hardships that many people don’t experience until much later in life.

With Ana by his side, trying to stay educated and organized with all the upcoming operations and doctor’s appointments, your support will make a real difference in Nick’s life.
