“Your friend, Nick Spoerl, is in need of your help.
At the beginning of November, while working on a project for a friend, Nick fell from his ladder. His right knee gave out and he was taken to the emergency room. X-rays were taken and he was given some meds to reduce the swelling and to help with the pain. A couple days later, Nick had a follow-up visit to get an MRI and to meet with an orthopedic surgeon. It was discovered that he has a complex tear of the meniscus, as well as root tear (tearing of the meniscus away from the bone). He will need surgery in the near future to repair the damage and the road to recovery after surgery is lengthy. Generally, the recovery process is 6-8 weeks on crutches, with no weight on his right leg, and then another 4-6 months of physical therapy.
Nick was not prepared for such an injury.
Being uninsured, he has spent his remaining income and savings on follow-up doctor's visits and this is substantially more than he is taking in. Nick is doing his best to find work to replace the income lost, with some luck, but his injury and skill-set make it very hard to adapt. We are trying our best to help him with rides and gas, but he's falling quickly behind on his responsibilities and obligations. His rent is due, child support is past due, credit cards are maxed, and very little is coming in.
He needs our help to get caught up and put this behind him.
If you know Nick at all, you know he has issues with asking for help, yet he is always there to help anyone that asks - even now! He'll suffer through the worst circumstances, if that means that he can be of service. Nick went as far as starting a construction ministry to help the less fortunate. He’s stated many times that this is his calling and it is one of the main driving forces keeping his head up right now.
Nick is not perfect, but he tries every day to be a beacon and knows that a simple smile can brighten your day. This is a man that does not burden others, but lifts them up, and he needs any help that you are willing to offer.
Let's help get him back on his feet.”
