Nick Lyman recently suffered a water ski accident in late March that resulted in a neck injury. He was taken to the hospital with severe pain. On March 29th, a laminectomy was performed on Nick. The surgery was successful, but for the next several days, the pain was unimaginable.
Last weekend they thought they had finally gotten the help they needed to control his pain. For one day Nick’s pain level was brought down from a 10 to a 5. On Monday he was a new man, smiling a little and getting out of bed a little more often and more easily. He could tolerate a level 5 pain.
Monday night (4/6) all hell broke loose. A CT scan showed he had an epidural hematoma of the cervical spine. He was rushed into emergency surgery to drain the bleeding, and of course went right back to ICU. He was supposed to be intubated for a few days, but he was extubated a day early and is breathing on his own. He can feel when touched, but has been unable able to move anything from the neck down, until 4/10 when he moved the fingers on his right hand. This is huge! Hopefully within a few days Nick will be moved to an acute rehab facility for some pretty intensive PT and OT. This has been an on-going nightmare but hopefully Nick is on his way to recovery.
Nick and Jac are self-employed and therefore will have no income indefinitely. On top off this, they will be burdened with overwhelming medical bills that will present a significant financial hardship.
