Seeking help from our community to help my brother in-law, Nick Kelly. Nick and his family have had their life turn upside down this last week. They were supposed to be signing for a new dream home on July 11th, looking into a new family vehicle, and exploring the new location and adventures that awaited them in their new hometown. Instead Nick is in the hospital awaiting surgery and talking about possibilities and options. It all started last week when the family was hit while on their way home from dinner on Tuesday. Rear ended while making a turn by a driver speeding on a dirt road up and over a hill. They were hit so hard it spun their truck 360'. His wife, Katherine, went to the hospital for rib pain but checked out fine, kids checked out fine, 2 days later Nick was having chest pains and went to the hospital. A cat scan showed them results no one expected. A blood clot in one of his lungs and a 15mm mass over his heart and up into some of his lymph nodes. He was rushed to U of M. The C word has been mentioned by doctors and nurses in several forms, lymphoma being one. Tons of tests have been performed and are still underway. But things got worse this morning for him. After a biopsy of the mass Nick was in recovery and talking to his wife when half of his face fell and he had no control over it, suspected mini stroke, tests are still being run as im typing to figure out what happened. He is also being scheduled for heart stint surgery in the very near future. While this is going on they lost out on their first home and are now having to move in with close family due to medical bills stacking high with all the tests and hospital stay. Both have been on unpaid medical leave trying to keep their jobs and their kids left with grandparents as Katherine stays by his side trying to make decisions and understand all the precedures to come. My sister, Katherine, is extremely concerned about medical costs and what treatments will be needed to save her husband and father of their 2 kids. They have already exhausted loans including 401k loans. Any donation would be wonderful as they await to see what the next steps are for Nick to try and get him on the road to recovery. Prayers are also appreciated. They are estimated currently(not end cost)looking at 15k out of pocket after insurance coverages and this is just the beginning. Thank you for your support, please share Nick's battle with others.
***UPDATE*** Nick has been diagnosed with Type B lymphoma. One of the outcomes we were praying it wasn't.
**Another update, Nick will have another heart surgery to enlarge his arteries again in 6 months**
