On Sunday (12/28) morning, our family’s world was turned upside down.
Nick, a 47-year-old father of three, was taken to the emergency room for severe trouble breathing after being diagnosed with the flu at urgent care. What no one expected was how quickly his condition would deteriorate.
Within hours of arriving at the ER, Nick went into respiratory failure. He had to be sedated and placed on a ventilator immediately. We learned that he had developed severe pneumonia in both lungs and rapidly became critically ill. Since then, he has required intensive, life-saving care, including dialysis and multiple powerful antibiotics, and has now been transferred to a higher-level hospital for possible ECMO support — a heart-lung machine used only in the most critical cases.
This all happened in a matter of hours.
Nick is currently fighting for his life in the ICU. He is deeply sedated and unable to speak for himself, but we know how much his children need him, and how many people are hoping and praying for his recovery.
To make an already devastating situation even harder, Nick does not have health insurance. The cost of critical care — ICU treatment, ventilator support, dialysis, emergency transport, and potential ECMO — is overwhelming, and the financial burden is growing by the day.
We are starting this GoFundMe so that his family can focus on what matters most right now: giving Nick every possible chance to survive and come home to his children.
All funds raised will go directly toward medical expenses, emergency transport, and supporting his family through this crisis.
Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for holding our family in your thoughts during this unimaginable time.
