I want to start off by thanking everyone who took the time to look at our story, and support us however you can.
After my siblings moved out of my parent's house in Manitowoc County to pursue education and other employment services, my parents (Nhia Pao Xiong & Pa Lor Xiong) decided to put up their house for sale. My parents want to move closer to us so they can continue to see us and spend time with us. My parents spent the whole summer of 2021 renovating their house of 21 years. They spent hours perfecting their home with the little money they have. The renovation was completed in August of 2021, and the house was listed in September of 2021.
On January 13, 2022, I was informed by our realtor about a water pipe that burst, causing water damage in the basement of the house. Since this day, my parents, siblings, and I have gone through traumatic distress about the house's condition. We hired a contractor to help drain the water with minor demo in the basement. However, the contractor made other demo decisions without our knowledge or consent. All the floors on the main level were removed, most of the floors in the basement were removed, and all the walls in the basement were removed. The contractor had also removed the whole bathroom in the basement, which none of it was ever consulted or approved by us.
My parents and I spent multiple days communicating and expressing to the contractor about our concerns. Their initial time frame was to complete work in 3 days but it took them almost two weeks to finish work. When my father expressed his dissatisfaction with the extended work and additional work that was done without his knowledge, the contractor dismissed it by saying they were trying to prevent mold. Their reasonings were incongruent with their work, because they had left part of the damp closet and vinyl floor in the basement (but demo the dry area). They had also reassured my father that insurance would cover the cost, which was not true.
All of my parents' and siblings' hard work had been torn apart. Not only was the stress focused on the contractor's work, but we were also informed that my parents' homeowner's insurance had declined coverage, due to it being a vacant house. My siblings and I spent restless nights, after work, researching the Home Improvement Act to help save my parents' house. We were able to identify multiple violations that the contractor had committed under the Home Improvement Act. My siblings and I had consulted with multiple attorneys on insurance and contractor claims. We had decided on hiring an attorney to assist us with the claims. However, it may be a long journey for us.
A background on my parents: My father (Nhia Pao Xiong) has been the hardest working man I've known. All my life, I've known him to be a family man. He loves to be close to family and goes over and above to help everyone he cares about. He took care of 9 kids, worked full-time, and spent his weekend donating his time to his cousins. He worked 3rd shift when I was a child and would lose sleep to drop off things for me at school (when I forgot my flute, or lunch, etc.). I would be in the school office, so frightened that he would be upset when he brought my things to school. Instead, he would smile at me every time. His love and hard work is an inspiration to never give up. My father is now retired. However, he hasn't enjoyed his retirement due to this incident. My mother (Pa Lor Xiong) has been such a loyal wife and mother. She would give anything to be able to support her children and husband. However, my mother has been disabled from a back surgery since 2015. Both my parents have never asked for financial help from anyone. They are about to use their life savings to save the house that held so many memories.
I want my elderly parents to be able to enjoy life without worrying about where they will sleep, or what they can afford. To help them move forward, I am asking for your sincere donation to assist Nhia Pao Xiong and Pa Lor Xiong with Attorney Fees. This will help them meet the Attorney's retainer fee and additional months of Attorney's work.
Again, I want to thank everyone who took time to pass on your love and support-whether it be blessings, advice, or donations; we will take them, cherish them, and remember them!
