Support Nguyen Family in End-Stage Lung Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

My name is Jacqueline Hua, and I am starting this GoFundMe campaign on behalf of my uncle’s family. My uncle, Hùng Nguyễn is battling end-stage lung cancer, and I am reaching out to ask for your kindness and support so he can rest easy as he approaches the final chapter of his life. I’d like to share his story with you.

I first met my uncle when I visited Vietnam in 2009. Since then, I've called him Cậu Hùng. He is the youngest of my mom’s nine siblings and was the last to immigrate to the United States ten years ago. Reflecting on Cậu Hùng’s journey, I am deeply moved by his courageous decision to leave an established life in Vietnam at 40 years old and move his family of four to a completely new country in hopes of better opportunities for his daughters. Restarting life in one’s middle age is challenging for anyone, but Cậu Hùng’s dedication never wavered. He began working as a janitor at an aerospace company and eventually secured a position on the nanochip assembly team. However, the relentless long hours, difficult working conditions, and lack of self-care took a toll on his health, leading to the development of end-stage lung cancer, a diagnosis he received just ten months ago.

In the last ten years, Cậu Hùng has never taken a vacation, never traveled outside Vietnam and California, and never even set foot inside Disneyland. These are simple pleasures and acts of self-care that many of us enjoy on a regular basis, but he will never get the chance to experience them. Every breath of his life was dedicated to supporting and safeguarding his family. Despite this, he has never complained.

The name "Hùng" means "heroic" in Vietnamese, and my uncle has truly lived up to his name. He has consistently faced his greatest trials with resilience and heroism, acting as a pillar of strength for the people he loves. Even now, as he clings to life in the final stages of his battle with cancer, he remains selfless. For a man that has asked for so little and given so much for those he loves, he has expressed that death is not the greatest thing he fears, but rather it is the thought of leaving his family vulnerable as he has been their provider and protector all this time. His family has also stepped up in extraordinary ways: His wife has become his full-time caregiver, leaving her job to be at his bedside. Their eldest daughter is fighting a custody battle for her newborn child while working full-time to cover household bills and medical expenses and sleeping at the hospital in the evenings. Their youngest daughter has put her college studies on hold to advocate for Cậu Hùng’s medical care day in and day out. Together, Cậu Hùng’s family shares the responsibility of care with unwavering love and devotion.

As we prepare for what lies ahead, we are asking for help to ensure Cậu Hùng’s family can focus on spending these precious moments together, without the constant weight of medical bills, funeral costs, and beyond. Every contribution will go directly toward covering his care and funeral expenses. Your kindness will provide more than financial relief—it will give Cậu Hùng’s family the priceless gift of peace during this difficult chapter.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading Cậu Hùng’s story and for considering a donation. Your generosity means the world to us, and we are deeply grateful for your support during this incredibly difficult time.

With gratitude,
The Nguyễn Family
