My name is Neysha Mary Davila Maldonado and I’m currently living with my mother in Puerto Rico. However, in order to receive the necessary treatment needed for my many medical conditions, I need to move to the United States. I believe this will give me a better quality of life.
Here is a a little of my story: I was born on September 2, 1994. During birth, my mother had an asthma attack that led to complications. I was delivered premature and spent a month in the NICU.
As an infant, my mother began noticing that developmentally my mobility was not as it should be. I could not turn around, I stayed still like a doll, I also got very sick and I never left the hospital. After testing, the doctors diagnosed me with cerebral palsy. This condition affects my motor skills. At an early age, my mother and doctors began working with me and I received therapy interventions and surgeries to be able to improve more and more each day. I was extremely happy with the progress however, that all changed when I turned 17. In less than two weeks, my whole life took a turn. I had a relapse in the hospital with multiple complications. I lost almost complete mobility and had a lot of muscle fatigue. I was anxious because the doctors did not know what was going on. At the end of that week, they diagnosed me with Autoimmune Hepatitis. The following week, they diagnosed me with Lupus. Now, because of over 10 different conditions that I have, my liver isn’t functioning correctly. I’m in need of a liver transplant. I do not have the financial means to do it alone. My family wants to help but it is a very long road. For this reason, I am turning to the generosity and humanity of people to be able to improve my quality of life. Thank you and may God bless you.
