At a time in theatre creation where original new works are in dire need, theatre artist and creator Danny Sylvan has written a striking and profound new play entitled EX-CHANGE OF WORDS – now he needs your support to bring this piece to the stage!
This perplexing dramedy is a Toronto-based story, so it is only fitting that it will make its debut at the Toronto Fringe Festival! Yes, you’ve read that right; Danny has been blessed with the opportunity to mount EX-CHANGE OF WORDS at the 2026 Toronto Fringe Festival, and is thrilled at the chance to showcase a piece that is near and dear to his heart.
- "EX-CHANGE OF WORDS" centers around Curtis, a 42 year old anxious avoidant and over-thinker, who is grieving the loss of the love of his life, while trying to maintain a friendship with his most recent ex-lover, and has simultaneously entered a new romantic relationship as ‘the other man’ (or ‘the mistress’). This piece, which is loosely inspired by true events, explores the complexities that can be coupled with gay dating, age-gap relationships, interracial relationships, and infidelity. It explores grief and the intricacies of ‘moving on’, as well as navigating transitions in friendships and the differences between boundary setting and enabling mistreatment. This is a queer story, and it will have diversity within its cast in various ways of the term, as an authentic Toronto story should.
In order to make this fantastical opportunity a reality, Danny needs your support! The team brought onto this project will consist of a director, performers, a marketer, producer collaboration, dramaturgs and stage management, and Danny Sylvan Productions enforces equitable and agreed upon compensation to be distributed to its creative collaborators. There are also participation costs and rehearsal space rental costs that will need a financial backing.
