Jack Richman is a musical theater writer dedicated to developing new works for the stage. As a student at Berklee College of Music, he has worked extensively in musical theater, collaborating with fellow artists. He is currently raising funds to support an Act 1 staged reading of his new musical, Athanasia, which is being put together by students from Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory.
Athanasia is a dystopian sci-fi musical that tells the story of Dr. Eve Horowitz, a pioneering geneticist who awakens in a Martian colony called The Red City after a 200-year cryo-sleep. The narrative explores her initial ambitions to achieve eternal life and her efforts to mend the strained relationship with her daughter, Hannah Horowitz, who has continued her mother’s genetic research and helped build a society on Mars. As Eve navigates the vibrant, quirky society and high-tech environment of The Red City, she uncovers the unethical use of gene editing and the pervasive conformity. She must find her place in this new world, so different from the Earth she left behind, and determine where she truly belongs.
This musical has been developed with an incredible team of collaborators:

This staged reading which is being music directed by Henry Roseman, is an opportunity to further develop Athanasia by presenting Act 1 in a professional theater setting. The event will take place in Boston at the Suffolk University's Modern Theatre on April 19th at 8pm. We are trying to raise $1,500 to help cover rental and production costs, which include:
$1,100 – Venue Rental & Approximate Police Detail
$276.68 – Rental Insurance
$300 – Show Artwork
$243.00 – Studio Space for Promo
$200 – Printing
The total cost of this project is an estimate of $2,120, and this fundraiser will help cover the most essential expenses, primarily the venue rental.
Any support, whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser, will make a meaningful impact in helping us present this reading.
Check out this video with selections of music from the show.
Thank you for your generosity and for supporting new musical theater.
