As many of you may know the Speer-Mason family has just begun what will be a difficult and long journey. On January 5th Alyssa gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. During labor, Alyssa suffered a seizure and other complications, that although traumatic, she recovered.

Several weeks into being a new mom, she began getting severe migraines that no medication would relieve. On Friday March 25th, after several doctors appointments, worsening/additional symptoms, and a trip to the ER, Alyssa was admitted to the ICU after a mass was found on her frontal lobe during a CT scan. On Saturday morning, after having a MRI to identify the mass, they were told that she has a large brain tumor on left side of her brain.

At this time the type of tumor is unknown, but will require surgery and a biopsy in the coming days as they continue to work to reduce the pressure and swelling on her brain with medications.

Alyssa is coming to the end of her unpaid maternity leave, into another leave of absence from work. Brandon, her husband, will inevitably need to take time off work to care for both Alyssa and their newborn baby. With the added expense of her extended stay in the hospital, and major upcoming surgery, this fund is being set up to take some financial burden off the family so they can focus on Alyssa’s road to recovery.

Alyssa is the strongest and bravest woman I know. Whatever challenge is placed on her I know she will overcome it.
