A Storm Took Our Building. Help Us Keep New Day Alive.
A single storm changed everything.
Yesterday evening, I walked into devastation. My phone rang. A friend called to tell me she heard our roof collapsed and wanted to make sure I was alright. I thought it was a prank.
Then, a guest from New Day called to tell me there was water coming into the building.
I rushed over, hoping it wasn't as bad as it sounded.
It was worse. The roads were flooded and blocked, but we managed to find a clear path through the back.
We weren't immediately able to gain access.
The next morning, I was able to get a peek, but still not access. Everywhere I looked, there was evidence of damage. Floors, walls, furniture, supplies, equipment, and years of careful preparation had been soaked.
Even now, the damage continues to spread as moisture works its way through the building.
Unless something was protected inside a cabinet, drawer, or storage bin, it is likely ruined.
As overwhelming as it was, one thought kept returning to me.
What about our women?
For more than two years, New Day Women's Center has been a place where women could have their basic needs met, find encouragement, sanctuary, community, and hope.
Some come for a meal. Some come because they have nowhere else to spend the day safely. Others come for support groups, coaching, or help navigating difficult circumstances. And some simply need someone who knows their name and is glad to see them.
This building was never our mission. It was simply the place where our mission lived.
Today, it appears that our home may no longer be repairable. We are awaiting a final inspection, but we are preparing for the very real possibility that we will need to relocate and begin again somewhere else.
That is both heartbreaking and hopeful. Heartbreaking because we have poured countless hours, resources, and love into creating a welcoming place for women.
Hopeful because New Day has never been about a building. It has always been about people.
How you can help
We are asking our community to help us secure a new home for New Day Women's Center.
Your donation will help us:
- Secure a new location
- Replace furniture, office equipment, and supplies destroyed by water
- Rebuild our kitchen and hospitality space
- Replace programming materials and guest resources
- Cover moving and reopening expenses
- Continue serving women during this transition
Every gift, whether large or small, helps move us one step closer to opening our doors again.
If you are unable to donate...
Please share this campaign.
Word of mouth has always been one of the greatest gifts our community has given us. One share may reach the person, business, church, or organization that can help provide our next home.
We aren't giving up.
Storms have a way of reminding us what truly matters.
Furniture can be replaced. Walls can be rebuilt. A location can change.
But hope, compassion, and the belief that every woman deserves dignity are worth rebuilding again and again.
New Day Women's Center isn't ending. We're simply searching for the place where its next chapter will begin.
Thank you for believing in this work and for standing beside us as we begin again.
With sincere gratitude,
Angela Cheslock
