Support New Dad Nick’s Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Nick's life took an unexpected turn in September 2024 when he underwent a heart ablation for Atrial Fibrillation. During the procedure, doctors discovered he had Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a rare condition causing rapid heartbeats due to an extra electrical pathway in the heart. Fortunately, they successfully blocked this pathway, potentially eliminating future rapid heartbeat episodes.

Shortly after, Nick faced another challenge when he was diagnosed with stage 1 testicular cancer in late September. He underwent surgery on October 8th to remove the tumor, followed by a rigorous schedule of CT scans and blood tests every 6-8 weeks to monitor his condition.

In the middle of surgeries, scans, and worries, Nick and Cassie welcomed their healthy and happy baby girl on October 31st. Through the darkness, God's love brought them light. Maisie's birth provided a much-needed source of joy during a difficult time.

Initially, Nick entered "surveillance mode" after his first postoperative CT scan. However, a scan and blood tests in late January revealed significant growth in his lymph nodes, advancing his diagnosis to stage 3 testicular cancer.

The next step in Nick's treatment journey will take him to Indiana University Health Hospital, known for its exceptional urology department. He will undergo surgery to remove lymph nodes in his abdomen, requiring a 1-3 day hospital stay followed by a 10-14 day recovery period at home. Full recovery may take up to two months, with lifting restrictions of no more than 10 lbs for six weeks post-surgery...keeping Nick from picking up his own baby girl.

Nick's story is one of resilience, facing multiple health challenges while embracing the joy of new parenthood. Funds raised through this campaign will be used to support Nick and Cassie during this challenging time. Specifically, the money will help cover travel expenses to and from Indiana University Health Hospital for his upcoming surgery, as well as supplement any income they will miss due to his extended recovery period. Your contributions will help alleviate the financial burden associated with Nick's treatment, allowing him to focus on his recovery and spend quality time with his new family.

This fundraiser is being organized by a coworker and friend of Nick's mother-in-law, Cassie's mom, and Maisie's proud grandma, Tracy Watts.
