Support New Creations Trust in their Women's Safety Shelter
Donation protected
The proceeds of this fund will go towards New Creations Trust, an organisation primarily aimed at providing shelter to abandoned, homeless and mentally challenged women in the city of Madurai in Southern India. Through its collective vision of community involvement, New Creations provides not only food and shelter, but purpose to these women's lives. They are empowered through educational and vocational activities which engage themselves socially and cognitively, while providing them with crucial life skills.
More information about New Creations Trust can be found on their Website: https://newcreationstrust.org/ and Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/New-Creations-Trust-321240812151737
Aside from providing shelter, New Creations also uses their platform and voice to address various other social, environmental and economic problems by doing the following:
- Providing healthcare access to hundreds of families suffering from HIV, AIDS, Tuberculosis and other terminal illnesses
- Administering mental health services including diagnosis and counselling to assist men, women and children in need
- Providing education for economically disadvantaged children
- Advocating for the socially disadvantaged, including women, children and people with disabilities
- Organising blood donation for the local Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital
- Raising awareness and sharing information about various diseases that impact the local population
I came in contact with New Creations and its founder Glory Deborah, during my trip to India in February with the University of Wollongong, as part of the New Colombo Plan Government Initiative to support Australian undergraduate students in learning about the Indo-Pacific region.
New Creations graciously welcomed myself and the other UOW students, prepared us food, involved us in activities and told us about their mission and purpose. This allowed me to see first hand the incredible impact this association is having on these women.
Through the money raised here, we aim to assist New Creations in making the following Purchases:
- Food for 50 sheltered women for a month at $2,400
- 5 Special education teachers for a month (grades 6-12) at $124 per teacher, to a total of $620
- Clothing, footwear and bedding for sheltered women for 6 months at $3,550
- Toilet repairs for 15 toilets in a severely deteriorated state (retiling floors, replacing closets and pipelines, installing new doors, repainting walls) at $12,400
