The Justice Page Middle School Future City team, Nieuwmaris, won the MN Future City competition! The Future City program invites teams of middle schoolers to imagine a city 100 years in the future and come up with ideas to address challenges like climate change, energy generation, waste management, emergency preparedness, city planning, and more. The team designed a floating city, called Nieuwmaris, in the North Sea.
These 9 young engineers worked together as a team on their city since the beginning of the school year. They wrote an essay, built a model, and prepared for a presentation and Q&A in front of expert judges. This work was done outside of school time, both before and after school with the wonderful help and support of Mr. Koupal who volunteered his time to work with three teams at Justice Page. All that hard work paid off when they took first place. Next up is traveling to Washington DC in February for the Finals!
We are raising funds to cover their travel, food, and lodging for Finals. Please help us support these amazing kids!
After the results were announced! First place! We're going to finals!!
The team also received awards for having the best essay, best team presentation, and Engineering Excellence!
