My dear friend Briseida Lemos, a campesina organizer from northern Cauca is extremely ill with a malignant tumor in her stomach. The tumor is fast growing but she has entered treatment and her community and family are doing all they can to help her recover. Briseida has long been a central voice and leader of campesino social movements in southwest Colombia, helping to build women's orchards, facilitating crop substitution programs, and working with Afro-descendant, indigenous, and peasant communities to forge territorial peace *on their own terms*. Briseida and her family have lived a life shaped by the long-standing armed conflict and illicit crop economy in rural Colombia. They have had to move several times due to violence and currently live in a small farm where they grow a range of crops from lemons to squash to corn. With Briseida sick, her family supporting visits to and from major cities for treatment, and the exorbitant cost of medical fees, she needs a bit of financial support. All funds will go directly to Briseida and her family to help with food, transportation, clothing, and any other supplies in this trying time. Please help if you can and please share widely!
