We are Aditi Dhakal, Rakshya Karki, and Saramsha Pokhrel, three determined law students from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. We are honored to represent our nation at the 33rd Willem C. Vis West International Commercial Arbitration Moot in March 2026. This is not just an opportunity for personal achievement; it is a chance to elevate Nepal's presence on the global legal stage and inspire the next generation of advocates in our country.
The Vis Moot is one of the world's most prestigious international arbitration competitions, drawing the brightest legal minds and practitioners worldwide. By participating, we will sharpen skills critical to the future of Nepal's legal system and cross-border commercial dispute resolution helping strengthen our legal community and enhance Nepal's international legal stature.
Understanding Our Challenge:
-Nepal's Economic Reality
Nepal's GDP per capita stands at approximately $1,180, meaning the average Nepali earns just over $3 per day. Our nation faces a youth unemployment rate of 20.8%, and over 76% of households depend on remittances from family members working abroad. Nearly one-third of Nepal's GDP comes from remittances, with 82% of our labor force engaged in informal employment.
-The Recent Upheaval and Its Impact
In September 2025, Nepal experienced its most violent unrest in decades when Gen Z-led protests against corruption, inequality, and a government social media ban resulted in over 70 deaths. The economic devastation has been staggering with collateral damage estimated at $21 billion (nearly half of Nepal's annual GDP), leaving nearly 10,000 Nepalis jobless overnight and causing massive damage to our tourism sector. Investor confidence has evaporated, and national growth projections are expected to fall below 1%.
These protests reflected the deep frustrations of our generation fighting for transparency, accountability, and a future where merit matters more than connections. As young law students, we share this vision for a Nepal built on justice and fairness.
-Why Your Support Matters Now More Than Ever
Despite our dedication and proven track record, including national and international victories, we face significant financial barriers that have only intensified amid Nepal's current economic crisis. The costs covering registration, travel, accommodation, and intensive preparation are far beyond our means without external support.
Supporting us means investing in more than just three students. It means:
-Investing in Nepal's future during one of our most challenging times.
-Empowering youth who refuse to give up despite economic hardship.
-Demonstrating that Nepal's legal talent deserves recognition on the global stage.
-Inspiring hope that through education and excellence, we can help rebuild our nation's reputation.
Every contribution, no matter how small brings us closer to making this vision a reality. While Nepal faces unprecedented challenges, we believe in our potential to rise above them and prove that determination, skill, and integrity can overcome economic barriers.
Join us in representing Nepal with pride and excellence on a global platform. Your support will have lasting impact beyond this moot, shaping the future of legal advocacy in Nepal and showing the world that our generation is committed to building a better tomorrow.
Thank you for believing in us and in Nepal's potential.
