Hey everyone, this is Nemo, our one year old kitten. We recently took her to an emergency pet hospital due to worsening symptoms after a week of having an overly-lethargic cold. After running some tests and giving the Veterinarian her history since we noticed changes, he suspects it is likely FIP.

Feline infectious peritonitis is a rare, serious, and often critical and fatal disease, caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus. She has all the symptoms of Wet onset FIP and her condition is getting more critical by the day. Today (11/1/25) she began having tremors whenever she vomits. We have already spent a combined $800 at the ER and on the first couple weeks of injectable treatment for a hopefully fast recovery. Our expected treatment costs are going to exceed over $2000 between vet appointments and medication costs. We have another vet appointment Monday with our local vet to confirm if she has this disease or not, though we highly suspect she does and this is going to get worse if we don’t start treatment as soon as possible.

While my girlfriend and I are both healthily employed, I have unfortunately recently been affected by the government shutdown and placed on a furlough due to ongoing injury problems. We were lucky enough to pull out a credit line for her ER visit, but are in no place to pay it in full based on how much we will have to be spending total on treatment- especially if we have to place her in an animal ICU in the coming days.
