A Story Worth Telling (and Supporting)
If you’ve ever met Nelson Roberts, chances are you walked away smiling — and maybe scratching your head, wondering if that wild story he just told was true (it probably was). Nelson has a gift: he can make a scientist and a stand-up comedian laugh with the same joke. He’s the kind of guy who can build a treehouse from scraps, grill a perfect steak, fix your leaky sink, and still find time to teach his kids the art of fly fishing, how to hold a hammer, or why Jeremy Clarkson is both ridiculous and brilliant.
He’s a one-of-a-kind husband, father of 2 (Parker 31, Chandler 28); stepfather of 3 (Alexis 25, Gabriella 21, Aiden 19), storyteller, handyman, and humorist with a heart bigger than his toolbox.
But now, Nelson is facing the biggest challenge of his life.
ALS Has Entered the Chat
Recently, Nelson was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive, currently incurable disease that attacks the nervous system. It’s already begun to affect his ability to speak, move, and care for himself — and it’s taken a heavy emotional toll, too.
For a man who built everything — literally and figuratively — from the ground up, losing independence has been devastating. But in true Nelson fashion, he still cracks jokes when he can. He still smiles when his kids walk in the room. And he still tries, every day, to pitch in.
But this isn’t a fight he or his family can face alone.
Why We’re Asking for Your Help
ALS is brutal — not just physically, but financially. As Nelson’s condition progresses, the Roberts family is facing massive costs that insurance simply doesn’t cover. These include:
• Specialized Medical Equipment: Wheelchairs, hospital beds, breathing machines, communication devices — all vital for quality of life, none of it cheap.
• Home Modifications: Nelson deserves to stay in his home, but that means installing wheelchair ramps, stair lifts, widened doorways, and a fully accessible bathroom.
• Professional In-Home Care: The costs of around-the-clock help can reach over $10,000 a month.
• Ongoing Therapies & Treatments: Physical, occupational, and speech therapy, along with regular medical appointments.
• Lost Income: Nelson has always been the family’s provider. Now, his ability to work is slipping away.
Your support will help give Nelson dignity, comfort, and peace of mind — and allow his family to focus on being a family during this incredibly difficult time.
What Your Gift Supports:
• Medical equipment and accessibility needs
• Professional caregiving services
• Home renovations and adaptive tools
• Therapy and treatment costs
• Family support during a massive life transition
A Legacy Bigger Than Life
Nelson is more than a patient. He’s a storyteller, a builder, a chef, a father, and a friend. He’s the guy who once fixed something with duct tape, fishing line, and a corny joke. He’s the man who taught his kids to be curious, kind, and capable. He’s the heartbeat of his family — and he’s still here, still fighting, still showing us how to live with heart, even when it hurts.
Whether you can give $5 or $5,000, every bit helps. And even if you can’t donate, please share this page to help Nelson’s story reach the people who can.
We’re not just raising money — we’re raising hope, love, and a little laughter in the face of a cruel disease. That’s how Nelson would want it.
Thank you for reading, giving, and standing with Nelson and his family.
