My name is Mike Carey, and I am a Longshoreman on the pier at Port Newark. I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of a good friend and fellow Longshoreman, Nelson Teixeira.

Recently, Nelson was seriously injured on the job. As many of us in this industry know, the work is demanding and the risks are real. Nelson has always been the type of guy who shows up early, gives his all, and is the first to lend a hand when someone else needs help.

Now it’s our turn to support him.

His injury has put him out of work, and the road to recovery will take time.

Between medical expenses, rehabilitation, and the financial strain of being unable to return to the pier, Nelson and his family are facing a difficult period.

Any contribution—no matter how small—will help ease the burden and give Nelson the support he needs to focus on healing.
