I met Nel Geurs years ago when we worked together in a cafeteria, and over time, she became a dear friend. Nel was recently honored as a Hometown Hero in Ossian and is a proud U.S. veteran—the heart behind Nel’s Café, a place that means so much to her and to everyone who visits. I now volunteer at her café, and I’ve seen firsthand how much she cares for her regulars and the community.
On Monday, December 22nd, Nel was suddenly taken to the hospital. She is currently paralyzed from the neck down, and her world has changed overnight. She’s unable to work or manage her beloved café, and the uncertainty of her recovery has left her facing overwhelming challenges.
The funds raised here will help cover Nel’s living expenses, including bills, rent, and other essential payments, so she can focus on her health and recovery. They will also help keep Nel’s Café open by covering utilities, ensuring that her regulars and the public still have a place to gather and feel at home.
Any support you can offer—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this fundraiser—would mean the world to Nel. Your kindness and generosity would be a true blessing to her during this incredibly difficult time.
