Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn that leaves even the strongest among us in need of a helping hand. Neil and Stephanie are a hardworking couple who have always done their best to support their family and others in need, but now, they’re facing challenges they never imagined.

Neil was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a progressive disease that has already taken a heavy toll. As the primary breadwinner, Neil’s diagnosis has meant leaving his job—a devastating blow to their family’s finances. His condition has led to significant decline in his functioning and it was determined that he was no longer able to work. Since August, Neil has not received a paycheck, unemployment, or SSDI benefits, leaving Stephanie as the sole provider for their family.

Stephanie, who works tirelessly in human services, earns a modest income that simply cannot cover the mounting bills, food, gas, and other basic necessities. They’re now down to one vehicle after losing the other due to inability to make the payments. They are also now on the brink of losing their other vehicle if they cannot catch up on these bills, making it even harder for Stephanie to get to work and support their family of three.

This once self-reliant couple is now struggling to stay afloat while waiting for disability benefits—a process that can be long and unpredictable. They’re facing overwhelming financial hardship, falling further behind on bills, and struggling to afford even the simplest essentials.
