About Me

Hi! My name is Neena Abraham. I am a graduate student in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine with a deep passion for cultural anthropology and spirituality.

About My Trip

From Dec 29th - Jan 1st, I will embark on & document my pilgrimage to the final resting place of Hindu spiritual leader & anti-caste social reformer, Sree Narayana Guru, in Kerala, India. Known for coining the famous quote: One Caste, One Religion, One God for Humanity, Narayana Guru promoted unity and equality above hatred. Each year, pilgrims flock to pay homage & reflect on his legacy.

This year, I am interested in exploring the power of pilgrimage for women in the 21st century, my personal journey of leaving Christianity for Hinduism and pre-vedic, indigenous traditions, and the concept of pilgrimage as a pathway to transformative emotional and spiritual healing.

My Project

I would like to document the journey and write a book about my experience to support others on their own healing journeys. I would also like to use the metaphor of pilgrimage as a journey into the past, and as a path to breaking inter-generational cycles within Malayali diasporic, and Indian life. My hope is to offer a form of narrative healing for fellow seekers and cycle breakers.

My project details include:

- Documenting the Sivagiri Pilgrimage: Capturing the rituals, teachings, and cultural practices.

- Promoting Cultural Understanding: Highlight the significance of Sree Narayana Guru's reformist legacy.

- Sharing a Spiritual Journey: Inspiring others by sharing my personal transformation and experiences.

- Exploring Healing Dimensions: Examine the therapeutic aspects of Guru's teachings in promoting well-being and mental health.
