Support Needed: Honor Grey and Help Beans's Road to Recovery

Hi,
We are Ciara and Marty. We are originally from Philadelphia, but moved to Groton, CT a year ago with our two wonderful kitties, Beans and Grey born of the same litter two years ago. On October 11, 2025 we were out visiting family and when we returned to our apartment building one of our neighbors’ apartments was on fire. Marty and I were frantic to rescue our little ones. Eventually emergency personnel sent a team to search our apartment. We saw them come out with Grey who was not moving, and they immediately started to give oxygen and CPR. I was then directed to go see Beans who was conscious and on a stretcher receiving oxygen. She was being her chatty self but seeing her like that broke my heart. The EMTs said she was holding on, but struggling when they found her. I stayed with Beans and comforted her until someone asked for "Ciara", and told me that our other cat, Grey, did not make it. My heart broke. The EMTs stayed with Beans while I ran to Marty holding our little Grey angel in his arms. We were both in tears, completely devastated. Our little family was broken. The EMTs helping Beans told us to take her immediately to an emergency clinic and we did as fast as we could. We spent most of the night there waiting to hear any news. After many hours we learned the oxygen was helping Beans, but that we wouldn’t know anything until the next day. We reluctantly said good night to her, giving her head pets and love, and then returned to our car at the apartment to bring Grey back to the clinic so we could have him cremated. We had one last ride with him, and held him close for the last time when we arrived at the vet again. They then took him away and we both felt that a part of us was missing. Our little boy. The bestest boy and most amazing brother to Beans. As much pain as we are in, we know we have to try and stay strong for our baby Beans. We know Grey is watching over her too. Beans has been eating and breathing better, but she still has a long recovery ahead. We are asking for anyone to support our GoFundMe to help us pay for Beans medical bills and Grey's funeral costs that are already in excess of $5,000. We are currently displaced and hoping to be able to return home soon, but we have no idea when that will happen. Thank you to all who have called and texted to check in with us so far. We would really appreciate any help you can give.
