Hello, friends. After many years, I have had a major transformational change in my life that I wanted to discuss. I am feeling very vulnerable posting about it, but here goes:

I’m going to be 80 years old this year and, as you can imagine, I have been through many trials. I am facing now one of the most challenging times in my life - and I am in need of your help.

As many of you may know, I am on a low fixed income. Four weeks ago, I took a very bad fall and fractured my arm. I was at my home alone and could not catch myself to avoid it, or pick myself up off of the floor afterwards. I was fortunate to be able to call someone who came and took me to the hospital.

As a result, after 5 years as an in-home caregiver and worker for a cherished old friend and confidante of mine, I was let go without notice by her family (stating that they need someone “more able-bodied”)... In the process, I lost one of my closest girlfriends and the support system that I had been in service to for many years - plus the job and income that I depended upon for my livelihood.

This all happened in one week.

I am very lucky to have subsidized housing - however can barely afford the rent.

I am now facing the following:

1. I have very little extra money to take care of myself, pay bills, buy groceries and gas.

2. I have upcoming necessary dental work - including oral surgery, two new bridges and a dental implant

3. I am in need of two knee replacements and cannot afford the recovery time off or assistance I would need post surgery.

4. Eventually I would like to find a good new/used car for work (that can come later). I don’t drive very far these days or at night because my current car is very old (2002).

I fully plan to begin searching for new caregiver jobs as soon as I am physically able to do so. At the moment, I am going to physical therapy twice a week, and it is helping.

For this reason, I have created this GoFundMe with a goal to raise a minimum of $10,000. Any and all amounts are welcome and will definitely be used towards this aim - and for the right reasons. You would be helping me immensely and I would be so very grateful. I will be sure to keep everyone up to date on my progress.
