We had an electrical fire in our garage a few months ago and are still dealing with repairs and unable to move back in. Nobody was home but the dogs at the time (they are okay). Thankfully, a neighbor quickly called 911, or it would have been much worse.
The first contractor we had was a nightmare. Our verbal agreement was not followed other than demo work. The invoices had items that were never done or were not supposed to be done and other errors. I was told there are bound to be errors on a big job like it was okay to leave them. They also claimed not to have the pictures of non-salvageable items we were promised. We negotiated down the cost, but in the end, they burned through over 2/3 of our limit before even starting any repairs.
This leaves us out of pocket for most of the repairs, and we’ve used up our coverage for lodging. The new contractor has been great, but there have been extensive delays with the city for the structural permit, so we are now paying for our lodging.
My pride kept getting in the way of putting this up, but I don’t know what else to do. I know times are tough these days, but I'm hopeful that friends and family are able to help. Every little bit helps.
Thank you!
