On November 20th, 2025, my Canadian mare, Niah, suffered near fatal colic. The vet came promptly and administered life-saving care. I then spent the next several hours walking her in an effort to untwist her intestines. Her gums were grey and her breaths were hard and fast. She kept trying collapse and was in agony.
She was given pain killers and anti-inflammatories to make her more comfortable, and by 11pm that night she was more alert and her gums had become pink again. Since then, myself and several others have been monitoring her to ensure she doesn't have another episode. Without knowing what caused it or what damage might have been done to her gut, all we can do is keep watch.
My mare is everything to me, she is the love of my life. She is a partner, a friend, and a gentle soul who has carried me through some of the hardest moments in my life.
While I am grateful for the swift veterinary care, the bill was expensive and I am going to need help with those finances. An emergency vet fund would make me rest much easier. Everything helps no matter how small.
