Hi, my name is Faith Burgess. My family and I are hoping to raise money for medical expenses for my father, Michael Burgess.

On 6-7-25, he was riding his bicycle when a — most likely distracted — driver forced him off the road with their car. The driver didn’t stop.

There was a 10-12 inch drop off, which caused my dad to crash his bike. Once he got to the hospital, he learned he had fractured seven ribs and also punctured a lung.

The doctors at the smaller hospital in Salida, CO (where his accident occurred) thought his injuries were serious enough that he needed to be transported by helicopter to the hospital in Colorado Springs.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first bicycle accident my dad has been in. His first accident involved a collision with a car (also the driver's fault) and happened approximately eight years ago. The crash was bad enough that he needed neck surgery.

Additionally, my family and I have been living in Salida, CO since March of 2024; we are currently in the middle of relocating to a different house in town, but until we can get moved out of our current condo, we have double rent and the accident is going to push back our move out date, so the timing of this is less than ideal.

As of 6-12-25, he’s been in the hospital for six days, but we don’t know when he’ll he released yet. However, we found out today that his injuries will take six weeks to fully heal, so it might be six weeks before he can return to work.
