Support Needed for Kim's Life-Saving Liver Transplant
Donation protected
I am setting this gofundme up for my mother, Kim Battice.
She used to be an organ donor and is now faced with being on a liver transplant list herself through Tampa Transplant Center in FL.
She found out a few years ago she has an autoimmune disorder that causes progressive destruction of her bile ducts and liver. The autoimmune disorder is called PBC, which stands for Primary Biliary Cholangitis. The cause is unknown, and occurs most in middle-aged women and brings on many symptoms and complications.
Some symptoms include jaundice, itching, fatigue, weight loss, abdominal pain, swollen feet and ankles, bone and muscle pain, and difficulty eating.
While she is on a multitude of medications to help slow the progression, there is no cure. Her only option to live a longer life is to receive a new liver.
Unfortunately, the lifesaving transplant is extremely expensive, ranging from $400,000 to $870,000, and she is in need of financial assistance to help cover the surgery and aftercare costs. Financial assistance for patients and medical insurance does not cover everything.
She has been on disability due to this condition and unable to work, which puts us in this position to reach out for financial help as she simply can’t do this alone.
If you can spare anything, every little bit helps and gives some hope for a new liver and a better quality of life in the future.
Thank you!
