Hi, friends! Thanks for being here. <3
On Friday, 2/21/25, I fell and severely injured my left knee, which has left me in extreme pain and unable to walk. I have had chronic issues with my knees since my youth and could not afford physical therapy or surgery at the time, which has exacerbated the severity of my current injury. I am requesting financial support for the emergent medical bills that have racked up as a result of this accident. Given that I live in a third-floor walkup apartment, I've been unable to go back home for the past 4 days (and counting) because I cannot take the stairs. On top of this, I had a traumatic, ableist, and transphobic medical experience recently at an urgent care, where I was further injured, belittled, infantalized, and left largely untreated by neglectful staff.
The compounding costs of having to secure a new wheelchair for basic mobility, stay in an accessible-specific hotel that has enough room for said wheelchair, the urgent care visit, and an xray that ruled out continued dislocation but did not rule out soft tissue damage or overall patellar instability, are making my next step of going to an orthopedic surgeon exceed beyond my reach/means. The surgeon is my next medical step because it is very likely that I will need a joint realignment surgery to address the instability in my knee that has led me to this point. In the meantime, I am very worried that I am re-perpetuating my injury by not having been properly seen by effective medical professionals. I am also unable to go to a hospital setting because of the risk it poses to my health as an immunocompromised person already disabled by Long COVID.
Any and all help is truly appreciated. A full cost breakdown of what the accrued costs have been, plus the ballpark quote of the surgery from my insurance, are below. I feel really grateful to have some funds for food, but I just paid rent and my financial situation is now precarious!
Total Goal: $3500 of the $4856 anticipated overall cost
All of the medical costs are estimates provided directly from my insurance carrier benefits list. The hotel stay is calculated at $200 per night for the accessible room.
- Hotel stay for 7 days: $1400
- Urgent care visit: $60
- X-ray during urgent care visit: $197
- Orthopedic specialist visit (upcoming): $25
- Physical therapy visits ($25 copay for 4 sessions/ 1 month): $100
- Surgery estimate from insurance: $1821
- MRI cost after insurance (upcoming): $653
- Wheelchair (already paid for but including for scope of total calculations): $350

A donation, a share, good vibes, it is all deeply appreciated. Thank you so much!
