Up until now, I have been extremely reluctant to seek help and support through a GoFundMe page. I’ve always been a hard worker, lived simply and humbly, and tried to support others when I could. But a series of setbacks over the past couple of years has pushed me into a place where I now need to reach out.
My career has been in homelessness services and housing in Los Angeles—work I’ve been proud to do. But for nearly two years, I’ve been unable to secure steady employment. As an older professional in their late fifties, the prospect of gaining steady employment lately has been incredibly challenging due to mass layoffs, pay cuts, and the preference for younger candidates in this job market, despite all my best efforts to find paid work. During this time too, I’ve had to rely on government assistance for food and public health benefits, but regrettably that support is running out.
Most recently, despite every effort to not reach this point, I’ve been forced to sell my small home due to several months of being unable to pay my mortgage. Currently I am in the pre-foreclosure stage. Bills and debt have accumulated. Health care, medication, and food assistance are soon to end. And with the market being volatile and questionable at this time, the sale of my home unfortunately will leave me with very little to rebuild or relocate. I’m doing everything I can to stay hopeful and focused on moving forward. And I’m committed to get my life back on track.
That’s why I’m finally reaching out for your help. Any contribution—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing my page—would make a real difference for me, as I work to get back on my feet during this transitional period and continue my work helping others.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Your support at this time means more than you’ll ever know.
All My Best,
Mark
