This past Monday (Feb 9) my apartment completely flooded. There was a fire in the apartment above us (flames never touched our place), and it caused one of their sprinkler pipes to burst. Water game gushing down in a deluge from the vents, the ceiling light fixtures, even just from the ceiling itself. By the time maintenance could get it shut off the water was ankle deep. So many of our possessions were submerged, damaged, and ruined. Our bed was soaked. The power had to be cut off for several hours and a lot of the stuff in our fridge spoiled. My partner has asthma and so couldn't stay in the apartment that night becasue of all the dust etc that the water stirred up from the vents.
In addition to having to restock our fridge, we need to replace our bed and potentially our couch (it also got wet though not as bad as the bed did), as well as several of our board games and potentially my partner's desktop computer. A few of our books also got ruined as did my PS4, sadly.
We have filed a renter's insurance claim but because I just moved in here at the beginning of February I hadn't been added to it yet so my possessions will not be covered. They are also an insurance company and will fight tooth and nail to NOT pay anyone a dime. They're already dragging their feet on sending us one of the forms they say we need to fill out.
Any donations will go to replacing damaged/ruined items, restocking the fridge, and purchasing dehumidifiers to help rid the place of excess moisture so my partner is able to breathe without triggering their asthma.
