Help Support Neal Merlan and His Beautiful Family

Our dear friend Neal Merlan is facing the unimaginable: a diagnosis of the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Amidst the whirlwind of medical appointments, treatments, and overwhelming emotions, Neal’s deepest concern remains not for himself—but for the well-being of his beloved family.

Neal is so much more than a patient or a diagnosis. He’s the big-hearted, kind-souled jokester who can make anyone laugh on the darkest day. A true sci-fi nerd and proud conspiracy theorist, Neal brings color and curiosity to the lives of everyone around him. He’s a loving husband to Stephanie, a devoted father and stepfather to Niella (17), Kaleb (11), Jaxsyn (3), and baby Janine (18 months), and the kind of friend you thank your lucky stars for having.

For as long as I can remember, Neal never expressed a desire to start a family—but all that changed when he met Stephanie. From that moment on, he didn’t hesitate to step into the role of a father. And not just any father—a Super Dad.

Stephanie’s biological niece and nephew, Jaxsyn and Janine, have been in Neal and Stephanie’s care since the days they were born. The couple has been fostering them through the arduous and often overwhelming foster care system, committed to giving them a safe, loving, and stable home. Now, after years of dedication and sacrifice, they are in the midst of adopting them—solidifying legally what has long been true in their hearts: that these children are their own.

Neal doesn’t see them—or any of the kids—as anything less than his. Every single day, he shows up—with unwavering love, patience, and a fierce commitment to being the steady, dependable father they deserve. He’s there for the big things—school events, tough decisions, doctor visits—and the small, meaningful ones: bedtime stories, goofy dances, inside jokes, and quiet reassurances. He is their protector, their role model, their safe place. Neal didn’t just accept the title of “Dad”—he lives it, with his whole heart, every day.

Today, we’ve been inundated with people asking, “What can we do to help?”

The truth is, Neal is the primary breadwinner of his household. His illness means he won’t be able to work, and this will put significant financial strain on the family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. Every donation—no matter how big or small—will help ease the burden and allow Neal to focus on what matters most: spending precious time with his family, surrounded by love.

A Potential Move for Lifesaving Care

Neal’s medical team is currently exploring the best possible treatment plan, which may involve relocating temporarily to Houston so he can receive care at MD Anderson Cancer Center—one of the nation’s top hospitals for treating aggressive brain tumors. While this move would ensure Neal has access to cutting-edge treatment and clinical trials, it would also bring major financial and logistical challenges for the entire family, especially with four young children to care for. Your support can help make this move possible, giving Neal the best shot at more time, better care, and hope for the future.

Please consider donating, sharing this campaign, and keeping Neal, Stephanie, and their beautiful children in your thoughts and prayers. Your support means more than words can express.

With heartfelt gratitude,
His Family and Friends
