Hello! My name is Naylani Burton and I am a senior TV/Film major and Business Administration at Howard University. I'm so excited to share my thesis film, Beyond the Blue Line, a compelling film that dives into the complexities of grief, accountability, and the impacts of systemic injustice. This story is not only timely but deeply personal, and we believe it has the power to spark conversations and bring about change.
Following a tragic act of police brutality, 'Beyond the Blue Line' explores the intertwined lives of Jamal's grief-stricken brother, Marcus, determined to seek justice, and a guilt-ridden officer tormented by the haunting aftermath of his actions. As Marcus navigates the complexities of grief and seeks justice, he faces the harsh realities of the world around him. Meanwhile, the officer, haunted by guilt, relives the fateful moments that led to the shooting, including a misjudgment that changed multiple lives forever.
Our production is scheduled for early November 2024. Your contributions will directly fund essential aspects of the film, including set design, location costs, costumes, makeup, equipment, and post-production needs such as editing, visual effects, and film festival submissions.
By supporting Beyond the Blue Line, you’re helping amplify a story that captures the urgent realities many face in today’s world. This film goes beyond being a narrative of loss and regret—it's a mirror, reflecting our own struggles with morality, justice, and the uncomfortable truths we often avoid. Beyond the Blue Line isn't just a film; it's a call to action, urging viewers to confront these issues head-on. It reminds us all that we have a role in shaping a more just and equitable society.
