Navy’s Fight Against AML M7 (AMKL)
What started as a routine checkup turned into every parent’s worst nightmare.
Last week, Indigo took Navy, their bright and spirited 2-year-old, to a typical doctor’s visit. She mentioned a few bruises that didn’t seem to go away and that Navy had been complaining of headaches here and there. Out of caution, their doctor ordered some bloodwork. The results came back with alarming numbers - enough that he told them to head straight to a specialized hospital in Syracuse, NY for further testing.
Within hours, Weston and Indigo packed up, got their other kids situated, and took Navy straight to the hospital. What unfolded over the weekend changed their lives forever. After several rounds of blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy on Sunday, doctors confirmed the unthinkable: Navy has Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia (AMKL), also known as AML M7 - a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.
On Tuesday, she began her first round of chemotherapy, and this brave little girl is already fighting like a warrior. She’ll be in the hospital for at least a month, with both Weston and Indigo by her side as she begins this long, uncertain road ahead. Her treatment plan will evolve depending on how she responds, but doctors have already shared that a stem cell transplant will likely be necessary — which means her siblings could even become potential donors.
A Message to Other Parents
Indigo wants to share a word of caution to other parents:
“If something feels off — if your instincts are telling you something — don’t ignore it. Speak up. Ask questions. Get answers.”
Her quick action and mother’s intuition are what led to Navy’s diagnosis before it progressed even further.
Why We’re Raising Funds
Even with insurance, this battle comes with enormous financial strain. Weston and Indigo will both be away from work for the foreseeable future. Travel, food, and lodging near the hospital quickly add up. Their other children still need care, stability, and support back home. Once Navy returns home between treatments, she’ll need special precautions, medical equipment, and constant care.
It’s impossible to plan for everything when your world stops overnight - but our goal is to lift that financial weight off their shoulders so they can pour all their energy into helping Navy heal.
How You Can Help
Your donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward:
- Covering everyday expenses while both parents are out of work
- Travel, meals, and housing near the hospital
- Medical and recovery costs not covered by insurance
- Support and care for their other children during Navy’s treatment
If you would like to help in other ways - such as through meal trains, care packages, or anything that’s on your heart - please coordinate through Marie Darling, who is helping organize additional support for the family.
Most importantly, the family asks for your prayers - for Navy’s complete healing, for Weston and Indigo’s strength, and for peace and comfort for Natalie, Neo, and Nova as their family walks through this storm together. We know that God can do miracles, and we’re believing He’s already at work in Navy’s body.
Let’s rally around Navy, Weston, and Indigo, and help them focus on what truly matters: giving their little girl every chance to beat this, and keeping Natalie, Neo, and Nova surrounded by love and stability while their parents are away.
