Help Navajo Families Impacted by the Oak Ridge Fire
Arizona Native Democrats Community Relief Effort
The Oak Ridge Fire continues to burn across Navajo Nation land, threatening communities near St. Michael’s, Oak Springs, Hunters Point, and moving dangerously toward Klagetoh. As of this morning, the fire remains 0% contained, with nearly 9,847 acres already scorched. Over 400 firefighters are battling the fast-moving wildfire, working around the clock to protect homes, land, and families.
While emergency responders work tirelessly on the front lines, many Navajo families have been forced to evacuate their homes, with little notice or resources. The Window Rock Bee Hółdzil Fighting Scouts Events Center is now serving as the primary evacuation shelter. Volunteers from the Navajo Nation Executive Branch, Window Rock Unified School District, and the broader community are working hard to meet the growing needs of those displaced.
But the need is great—and growing—and many families are still without basic necessities.
Arizona Native Democrats Stepping Up for Our Communities
The Arizona Native Democrats have worked closely with these impacted communities for years. We have built trusted relationships with families, elders, and leaders in St. Michael’s, Oak Springs, Hunters Point, Klagetoh, and surrounding areas. These are not just communities we organize in — these are our relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Many people have reached out asking how they can help — especially where to send monetary donations, as the Navajo Nation is currently not accepting direct monetary contributions for this disaster relief effort.
As a trusted organization with deep connections in these communities, Arizona Native Democrats will be accepting monetary donations to directly purchase the items, supplies, and food most urgently needed by evacuees and impacted families.
We will coordinate with Incident Command Centers, evacuation shelters, and nearby chapter houses that are serving as donation hubs for their local areas to ensure that supplies get to the people who need them the most.
