In 2022, we launched Naughty Vegan with nothing more than a 10x10 tent, a shared dream, and a deep love for plant-based comfort food. As founders—Botanical Chef Paris and Cherrie—we were committed to creating vegan dishes that were bold, crave-worthy, and full of personality. Over the past three years, our passion has turned into a thriving local food business, capturing the hearts of Arizona’s vegan and foodie communities alike. However, we’ve reached a critical turning point: our current setup can no longer keep up with demand, and the physical toll of operating under a tent is becoming unsustainable. We are seeking community support to help us raise $25,000 for a fully equipped vegan food trailer that will allow us to grow, reduce physical strain, and better serve our loyal customers.
Tent Life Ain’t Easy
Running a pop-up kitchen is a physically intense operation. Each event demands over three hours of setup and teardown, often under the extreme Arizona sun. The limited space within our 10x10 tent restricts how many staff can work efficiently and how much food we can prepare or store safely. These logistical limitations not only slow down service and create long wait times but also increase the risk of burnout for our team.
For Chef Paris, who has been living with chronic lower back pain following a serious car accident in 2018, the physical labor required—lifting, loading, and standing for long hours—can be grueling. Despite these challenges, she continues to lead with passion and resilience, hand-rolling each burger balls and showing up for every event. Still, the growing strain makes it clear that change is essential.
Less Lifting, More Flipping
A food trailer represents more than just an equipment upgrade—it’s a pivotal solution to nearly every operational challenge we currently face. First, it would drastically reduce the physical demands on our staff by streamlining setup, storage, and cooking processes. It would also allow us to maintain consistent service during Arizona’s sweltering summers, a time when tent-based pop-ups must often shut down due to heat-related safety concerns. These shutdowns disrupt our business operations, affect income, and make it difficult for customers to enjoy our food when they want it most.
Second, a trailer would allow us to expand our menu and better serve our growing customer base—whom we affectionately call “Naughties.” With more space and proper equipment, we could carry a wider variety of our fan-favorite items and serve more people efficiently. The mobility of a trailer would also allow us to reach new neighborhoods and participate in more events without being restricted by unpredictable weather or time-consuming logistics.
The Final Flip
We’ve come a long way in just three years, growing from a single tent into a beloved name in the Phoenix’s plant-based food scene. But if we are to keep going—and growing—we need a foundation that can support our vision long-term. A food trailer would not only alleviate the physical and logistical burdens of our current operation but also allow us to deliver an even better experience to our customers, year-round.
