At 22 years old, Nathan was told he has cancer. For a couple of weeks, doctors thought it was a very common, very curable form of cancer. Later, after the biopsy, Nathan found out he has Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumors (DSRCT). This is an extremely rare form of cancer of which not much is known. Chances of survival are much slimmer than Nathan ever thought he would face, especially at such a young age. Treatment for this cancer is long and arduous, with only a few surgeons in the world qualified to handle this. The goal now is for chemo to slow the speed and to shrink the tumors found in Nathan’s pelvis and around his liver. Later, after chemo, Nathan and his family will have to travel to a highly specialized hospital where these rare, highly qualified surgeons and specialists work.
