Hi, my name is Nathaniel, but everyone calls me Nate. I was diagnosed with PKAN, a rare and progressive form of NBIA, in April of 2025. PKAN affects every part of my body, my movement, my muscles, and even my ability to speak. There is currently no cure, and my symptoms continue to progress as I get older. I love being outdoors, playing with my brothers, and exploring new places with my parents. But as PKAN progresses, I need more support to stay safe and active.
My doctors and therapists have recommended several adaptive items that would make a huge difference in my daily life, but insurance will not cover them. These include:
- A fully trained Mobility Service Dog to help with balance, mobility, safety during falls, emotional regulation, and communication support.
- A Medical Bed that keeps me safe at night as my movement becomes more difficult.
- Adaptive Equipment such as mobility aids, specialized seating, and tools that help me eat, play, and participate in activities I love.
These items are essential for my comfort, safety, and independence, but they come with high costs.
If you’re able to donate, share, or pray for my journey, it means more to us than you know. Every donation helps give me the chance to live my life with more safety, comfort, and dignity.
Thank you for loving me, believing in me, and helping my family fight PKAN one day at a time.
