Hi, my name is Nate. I’ve lived with Type 1 diabetes since I was 12, and over the years it’s led to kidney failure and 25 years on dialysis. Two months ago, I had open-heart surgery after doctors found four blockages in my arteries.

After the surgery, I developed a serious infection on my leg where veins were taken for the procedure. I had to be rushed back to the ER, undergo another surgery, and now I’m on wound vac therapy with home health care. Because of diabetes, my healing has been slow and painful.
