I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be on here asking for help instead of giving it, but here we are. In February, Nate was diagnosed with Stage 4 inoperable lung cancer. This diagnosis came as a shock and unfortunately an uncertain future. This type of lung cancer is treatable, not curable, but as explained by the doctors, treatment at this time is to improve his quality of life.
He is currently being treated at our local VA, as this cancer has been connected to events during his time in the Army, as well as serving that facility as a Federal Police Officer for 23 years. He has not been able to work the last several weeks due to doctor's appointments, radiation treatment, chemotherapy, and all of the side effects that come with this devastating diagnosis. It is uncertain if he will be able to return to work, although he would like to as long as he can, as it has become another family to him.
During this time, his family is his priority. He has 4 children that he is attempting to spend as much time with as he can on his good days, but even those days are unpredictable. He is holding out hope that he will be able to see the younger 2 graduate, all 4 get married, and see his grandchildren, and we all hope for the same, but even if that doesn't happen, he wants to be able to support his family and keep his memory alive in these important milestones.
We are looking to support Nate during this time of uncertainty in his ability to work by raising funds to assist in paying his rent, bills, food and medical expenses, but most importantly, make sure that his children are taken care of.
You all know Nate from his almost 50 years of life, whether growing up with him in Connersville, being a brother/sister in the Army or his time with the VA, through crazy nights at the Cavalier, or his children. We all know he has had his moments, but underneath that hard exterior is a man that would do anything for anyone, especially his children.
Anything you can give is appreciated. Financial donations, thoughts, prayers, or even sharing stories. Help us support him during this difficult time and remind him that he is loved.
Thank you all for being a part of his life. He is forever grateful.
