Nate Daughrity is a Navy Veteran who did two tours aboard the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier. After breathing in a toxic substance on ship, and falling 15 ft down a berthing, he was medically retired. Since then, he has had 6 major surgeries. The final one expanded his ribcage to take his sternum off of his heart. It was impacting his heart's ability to pump at 100% capacity.

Nate had that surgery the weekend of 7/18. They removed his sternum, installed a medical spreader bar and metal plates in his ribcage, reattached the sternum, and closed him back up. The bar will be removed within a year.
