My son, Dagan, is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Schizoaffective Disorder-bipolar type.
As many probably remember, last year there was a GoFundMe setup to help with rent and other necessities. The financial hardship at that time was due to not being allowed to work remotely when Dagan was in psychosis. This lead to reduced income.
Ultimately, I was let go in early January. The unemployment is a result of caring for my son Dagan during episodes of psychosis instead of being allowed to work remotely.
Good news - we have found a medication that has Dagan more stable. The voices are there, but he's able to function. He still has some visual and tactile hallucinations and delusional thoughts that I'm learning how to help him handle.
I've been actively looking for employment, had some interviews, friends circulating my resume, etc., with no offers.
Unemployment ran out in July. Friends and family have helped a lot over the last couple of years but are no longer able to assist.
I sold my car, which helped give me cash and lower monthly expenses. I also had a roommate move in to further lower expenses, but they were laid off and plan to move out.
Current situation is I have to pay October rent by Saturday, October 25th, and November rent no later than November 1st.
October rent is $1761
November rent is $1620
I've checked with numerous charities for assistance. Most are out of funds or we don't meet their criteria. I did find one that helps with utilities.
I've set the amount higher than just rent to pay for internet, gas (using my mom's car for now), and other expenses (medical insurance, doctor appointments, etc.).
Paying the rent through November will give me additional time to either secure a job or put stuff in storage and try to find a place for us until life gets somewhat normal again.
