My name is Natalia, and this is my story.
On November 30, 2024, my apartment building in San Jose, California, was devastated by a fire. Although I’m physically safe and my dogs—Nioh, Kono, and Kato—are unharmed, we’ve lost everything. The fire left us without a place to call home and has deeply affected us emotionally and psychologically. I’m heartbroken, but I’m lucky to have local friends and family supporting me through this difficult time.
That afternoon, while I was at work, I received a call from a neighbor who told me that a fire had broken out on the roof of the building. Thankfully, the fire department responded quickly and prevented the flames from reaching my apartment. However, I lost nearly everything in my garage, including my massage equipment, kitchen appliances, and other essential items.
The fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring in this historic building, and it was entirely beyond my control. Unfortunately, my renter’s insurance had recently lapsed due to a breakup, so I have no coverage to help me rebuild or replace what I've lost.
In addition to the physical loss, I also lost cherished items that were of great sentimental value to me, especially items that belonged to my late grandmother. These irreplaceable mementos have added an emotional layer to the devastation.
The cost of living in San Jose is already extremely high, and now I’m faced with the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding my life. I’m also missing work because I can’t operate my business without the necessary equipment. What’s been especially difficult is the lack of assistance with cleanup—once the fire was put out, I found myself navigating this recovery process mostly on my own.
I’ve always been a person who gives generously and works hard. I pride myself on being resilient and authentic. But, like all of us, there are times when we need help. It’s hard to ask, but I truly need your support.
How You Can Help
I’m asking for your help to get back on my feet. Your donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference as I work to rebuild my life. Whether it’s helping me replace lost items or providing funds for temporary housing, your generosity will help me and my dogs, Nioh, Kono, and Kato, find our way back to safety and stability.
I also need to find a new place to live urgently, as the historical building I was in is going to require significant repairs and red tape to clear.
Thank you so much for your support, your compassion, and for sharing my story with others who might be able to help. Your kindness means the world to me.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Natalia
