This fundraiser is for Nasko (Atanas) Stoyanov. He's my brother-in-law; I'm managing the fundraiser on his behalf.
After seven years of trying, Nasko became a father less than two weeks ago to a beautiful baby girl. The photo we've attached is of him holding his daughter on her first day home. He was able to enjoy that moment for roughly twelve hours before he had to leave for his first chemotherapy treatment.
Backing up: one month before his daughter was born, Nasko went to donate blood and received a call from the donation center telling him that they'd tested his blood after donation and recommended he get a battery of follow-up tests—something was off and they needed to know more.
Two anxious weeks of back-and-forth testing later ("you're anemic, that's odd... <more tests> your white blood cell count is way off... <more tests>...) and Nasko was in front of a hematologist in another country, confronted with his diagnosis: T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
The good news is that there is a path to full remission and recovery. That path isn't an easy one: four rounds of chemotherapy, three weeks in the hospital in another country, one week back to spend time with his wife and daughter, for four months in a row, to kill off the cancer. After this, there needs to be rigorous testing and monitoring to make sure he's in remission and recovered enough to endure a bone marrow transplant.
This GoFundMe is to help defray the costs of this journey. Every cent we can collect will help Nasko get back where he belongs—out of the hospital and home with his wife and daughter.
